Short, honest reads about the canyon as it looks from Side — the decisions, the small truths, the things the brochure skips.

Photographing Green Canyon: a guide for Side guests
For the greenest water, shoot with the sun high and behind you, and point down at an angle rather than across the glare. The narrow sections give the best wall-and-water frames, so be on deck when the catamaran enters them. Keep your phone in a dry bag during the swimming breaks, and remember the professional photo service is optional.

Booking Green Canyon through your hotel or direct: what to ask
Whoever sells you the Green Canyon tour, ask six things: what exactly is included (lunch, drinks, transfer), how many hours are spent on the water, whether there are shopping stops, when you pay, what the cancellation terms are, and who operates the tour. Booking direct on this site: €33 per adult, 4.5 or 2.5 hours on the water, no shopping stops, pay on the day, free cancellation up to 48 hours before.

8 things first-timers get wrong about Green Canyon
The common mistakes: expecting warm sea water (it is a cool freshwater lake), planning the afternoon (the return journey begins at around 15:00), assuming every drink is included (soft drinks on the catamaran are, drinks at the restaurant are not), leaving the phone unprotected, forgetting a layer for the deck, booking a party-boat expectation, not giving the exact hotel name, and paying in advance when nothing needs to be paid until the tour day.

The dam, the river and the spring that fed ancient Side
The Green Canyon is not a natural lake: it is the reservoir behind the Oymapınar dam, 185 metres high and completed in 1984 on the 93-km Manavgat river, holding about 300 million cubic metres of water. Beneath it, roughly 120 metres down, lies the Dumanlı karst spring — the source that once fed ancient Side through its aqueduct.

What happens to your Green Canyon booking in bad weather
If a Green Canyon cruise cannot operate because of weather, we contact you to rebook or cancel free of charge — and since nothing is paid online, there is nothing to refund. In practice it is rare: the reservoir is sheltered mountain water, not open sea, and ordinary wind that cancels Side sea trips rarely troubles it.

Three websites, one canyon: which is the real one?
All three of ours are. The same local operator publishes greencanyonside.com (this site, for Side guests), greencanyontours.com and greencanyonboattours.com — the same catamaran tour, the same booking system, same live price of €33 per adult from the Side coast. A site with a similar name that is not one of those three is not us.

Why the canyon water feels colder than Side beach
The Green Canyon reservoir is fresh, spring-fed mountain water held behind the Oymapınar dam, while Side beach is a warm, shallow sea. Spring water filtered through limestone is both the reason the lake is emerald and the reason it feels cooler — refreshing rather than cold, and the part of the catamaran cruise most guests talk about afterwards.

Does the weekday matter for Green Canyon from Side?
No. From every Side district — Side centre, Kumköy, Evrenseki, Çolaklı, Titreyengöl, Sorgun, Manavgat, Gündoğdu, Kızılağaç, Kızılot — the Green Canyon tour runs every day of the season at €33 per adult. The only limited run is Belek and Antalya, served on Mondays and Thursdays.

Pair the canyon day with an evening in old Side
Because the Green Canyon return journey begins at around 15:00, Side guests are back at their hotel in the late afternoon — early enough for a shower and an evening in the old town: the Roman theatre, the temple columns at the harbour, dinner by the water. The canyon takes the day; it leaves the evening.

Green Canyon or a Side sea boat trip?
They are different days. A Side sea boat trip leaves from the harbour and is about the coast, the swell and the party; the Green Canyon catamaran tour is a coach ride inland to a calm, emerald, spring-fed lake between canyon walls, with 4.5 or 2.5 hours on the water and an open buffet lunch, at €33 per adult. Choose the sea for the coast and the music; choose the canyon for the quiet and the cold, clear water.
