Side guests have a stranger connection to this lake than they know. Behind the old town's Roman aqueduct lies the Dumanlı spring that once fed the ancient city — and that spring now sits roughly 120 metres under the Oymapınar reservoir. The emerald water you cruise is, quite literally, the water Side was built on.
The practical side is simple: 26 kilometres and about forty free-flow minutes separate the Side peninsula from the boarding jetty, on a coach that works the town's hotels every morning of the season. It is one of the shortest canyon transfers on the whole coast, which turns the day into a comfortable outing rather than an expedition.
Side centre means the peninsula and the hotels along its two beaches — the old town behind the theatre, the hotels on the eastern beach towards Sorgun and the ones on the western beach towards Kumköy. The coach cannot enter the pedestrianised old town, so guests staying inside it are collected at the nearest point the driver can reach; your confirmation tells you where.
Because the peninsula sits in the middle of the run, Side centre is neither first nor last on the morning route. Expect a mid-route pickup and plan a proper breakfast before it.
The coach leaves the coast road at Manavgat and follows the river north. The last stretch climbs into the Taurus foothills and ends at the jetty above the dam, where the catamarans wait. Those 26 kilometres are measured with no traffic and no hotel loop — the real ride takes longer, especially in July and August when the coast road is busy.
