The Green Canyon day from Side, hour by hour
Quick answer
From a Side hotel the Green Canyon day runs like this: a morning coach pickup (time confirmed the day before), about 40 free-flow minutes inland to the jetty, then 4.5 or 2.5 hours on the reservoir by catamaran, depending on the option you book, with swimming breaks, a chance to fish, soft drinks on board and an open buffet lunch. The return journey begins at around 15:00 on both options. Price €33 per adult, paid on the day.
Most descriptions of this tour are written from the lake outward. This one is written from your Side hotel room outward, because that is where the day actually starts — and because the one thing Side guests want to know is where the time goes.
Two honest limits first. We never print a fixed pickup minute weeks in advance, because the route is shaped by the day's bookings and a promised minute would be a guess. And the only clock time in this guide is the one the operator gives for both options: the return journey from the canyon begins at around 15:00.
Before the coach: breakfast and swimwear
Pickup is in the morning. Eat a proper breakfast — the open buffet lunch is included, but it comes later in the day — and put your swimwear on under your clothes. Everything else fits in a small bag: towel, sunscreen, hat, phone. The packing guide has the full list.
The pickup: one coach, hotel by hotel
One coach works a set route through the Side coast, collecting hotel by hotel. Where your hotel sits on that route decides whether you are early or late: Çolaklı and Kumköy on the western end, Side centre in the middle, Sorgun and Titreyengöl near the inland turn, and the eastern-bank districts — Gündoğdu, Kızılağaç, Kızılot — on the Manavgat run. Your exact time arrives the day before.
The road: 26 km from Side centre
The coach leaves the coast road at Manavgat and follows the river north into the Taurus foothills. From Side centre it is 26 km and about 40 minutes free-flow to the jetty; from Çolaklı 32 km, from Manavgat town only 20. Those are measured figures without traffic or the hotel loop, so the real ride is longer — the first sight of the dam is the signal you have arrived.
On the water: 4.5 hours, or 2.5
The catamaran cruises between pine-covered canyon walls on calm, sheltered water — for 4.5 hours on the longer option, 2.5 hours on the shorter one. Everything else is the same on both: swimming breaks at designated places, from the catamaran, with the crew present; a chance to fish; soft drinks on board; and an open buffet lunch. Drinks ordered at the restaurant are paid separately.
The water is spring-fed and feels cooler than the sea at Side. That is not a flaw; it is the reason the colour is emerald and the reason the swimming breaks are the part guests remember.
Around 15:00: the return journey
On both options the return journey begins at around 15:00. From the Side coast that means a late-afternoon arrival at your hotel — the beach is still open, and the old town's evening is untouched.
What the day does not contain
No shopping stops. No carpet showroom, no jewellery detour, no textile outlet. Hotel, canyon, catamaran, back. If an excursion you were offered in Side includes shopping stops, it is a different product.
